Although most of us have heard of this flower as an effective treatment for depression, used on the skin it is the best oil as an anti-inflammatory and anti- irritant. It helps to tame red and inflamed skin and reduce the appearance of acne whilst restoring elasticity and reducing fine lines.
History of St John’s Wort
Originating in Europe, St John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum) grew wildly as a woody shrub. It was named after St. John the Baptist as the flower bloomed around his birthday, June 24th and in Old English “wort” means, “plant.” You will probably have seen the lovely yellow flowers all over Britain and when you hold them to the light they have transparent dots in the tissue. The scientific name “Hypericum” comes from the Greek words “hyper” (above) and “eikon” (picture), and referred to the practice of hanging plants over a religious icon to ward off evil during St. John’s day.
We use St John’s Wort in our Ruby Crystal Face Serum, we have blended it for all those who suffer with any skin redness as it contains tannins (also found in tea), which soothe and heal wounds. This oil also helps retain Elastin in the skin, which can deteriorate as we age.
Ruby Crystal Face Serum (Anti-inflammatory)
Our organic anti-inflammatory face serum also has a powerful combination of Ylang Ylang, Patchouli and homeopathic Ruby Crystal. Exotic and sensual Ylang Ylang is said to help ground, strengthen and soothe our bodies and souls. Combined with the vibration of Ruby crystals, which is said to bring back vitality and passion for life. Rubies are a strong protective stone helping with courage and enthusiasm, whilst helping to feel safe and protected. This unique blend is aligned to the Base Chakra, a grounding force that helps connect to the earth energies and empower our beings. Located at the base of the spine, this chakra is the foundation of our entire chakra system. By strengthening our base, the other chakras can begin to re-align and stabilise, helping to bring us into balance.
Use our St John’s Wort Face Serum after cleansing and before moisturising, to ensure the skin receives a nutritional boost. Apply morning and night. Cleanse and tone face, put 1-2 drops of oil on fingertips and gently massage oil into skin paying attention to problem areas. Leave to absorb the vitamins for 5 minutes. Apply moisturiser on top to seal in the natural skin repairing qualities of the oils.
Don’t be afraid to use this oil on other parts of the body other than the face, place a few drops onto wounds, burns, insect bites and stings. Apply to other areas prone to acne, such as the back and chest. Also Lauren here at Zephorium uses it to help treat her post herpetic neuralgia, as it is widely used for nerve pain. She applies a few drops daily to her area of pain.
